(1) Today (1 Dec 09) the Senate resumed session but the FOI bill was not taken up as the focus of the senate was the sponsorship of the 2010 budget. Tomorrow, there is also indication that it will again not be taken up.
(2) Should the FOI bill not be taken up by tomorrow, the remaining 6 session days (Dec 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16) before the Senate adjourns for Christmas represents the last clear chance for the bill to pass. Within next week it must hurdle interpellation, amendments, and approval on second reading. It must then be approved on third reading by Monday next week, and hopefully the conferees to the bicam will be named in both houses.
(3) This makes our planned mobilization for 7 December very critical. We request the strong participation of all our statement endorsers to the 7 December mobilization.
